Stretch and challenge

I have been asked by our Head of Faculty to include an extra column in my schemes of work for stretch and challenge. Whilst I feel I have always incorporated this, perhaps I have never made it explicit. So far, the column looks pretty mundane (higher level text reading, extended writing, group work, extension tasks, furhter reading etc). Does anyone have any other ideas?

We are keen to used past resources for a bit of variety and so we are trying to make the most of the Global Challenge resource booklets and the synoptic papers (we currently teach the Edexcel B spec). We intend to develop DME exercises and research and primary fieldwork exercises (what research or fieldwork would you need to do if we built...here... EIAs) using past synoptic papers. Synoptic resource booklets all have some useful extracts e.g the Cliffe airport proposal (Thames Development Gateway), South Downs (Rebranding rural), Cumbria reources (rebranding/inequalities), Regenerating Leicester (rebranding urban) and Lyme Regis and Towyn floods from way back (coasts) . There are some useful cartoons and images that are thought provoking and can be used to stimulate discussion from the Global Challenge papers- particularly on globalisation issues. Past questions can also be used during revision wherby students come up with questions to go with the images/photograph that link to the course spec. We have also discussed the possibility of students creating revision podcasts (the ICT have a digital dictaphone) to summarise key aspects of the course... I guess you could record record debates on certain issues also. Students have in the past been asked to create moviemakers to show their fieldwork exploits and findings. We also want students to become more independent and will be expected students to collect a portfolio of newspaper cuttings throughout the year that link to the course.

Just writing things down that come into my head! are these ideas any good?

All sounds good Richard !
Had a quick look on Edexcel website, and couldn't find past examples of Global Challenge other than some PDFs with some questions but no booklet. Do you know if they're online ?

I have just had a look also and there are no resource booklets when i type our school number in. We have most resource booklets scanned in at school. I will upload what we have tomorrow.
P.S. Apologies for the typos in the previous message. I really should check before moving on!

Thanks for the ideas, Richard - synopticity should stretch the most able. I hope my new centre has kept past resources!! Love the idea of revision podcasts - i guess these could be made available through our moodle. Alan, I don't think they keep past Global Challenge resources - a shame as some of them are great!

Here are a few resource booklets that we have scanned in. Not a full range but might be of use.
